Before you start

Common questions.

Do I need to connect my bank?

No. You enter your opening balance, income, and expenses yourself. Monthlane does not require a bank connection.

How is the forecast calculated?

Your opening balance is carried forward month by month, adding income and subtracting expenses. Confirmed actual amounts replace planned amounts. Recurring entries and one-off costs are included in the next 12 months.

Can I try it without an account?

Yes. The demo uses sample data and lets you explore the budget, recurring entries, and forecast. Demo changes are temporary. Your own budget starts empty when you create an account.

Which currency and payday calendar are supported?

Monthlane currently uses Swedish kronor (SEK). Choose any monthly payday during setup or on an income entry. Weekend and holiday adjustments are optional and currently use Sweden’s banking calendar.

Can I export my budget?

Yes. You can download your budget as a JSON file, including entries, actual amounts, and closed-month records.
